iPhone 4S price in India revealed
The iPhone 4S is finally coming to India and Apple has decided to give Indians a shocker, yet again. The latest iPhone from Apple is being launched in India on 25th Nov and would be available through Airtel and Aircel outlets. The iPhone price in India will start from Rs44,500 (~US$855) for the 16GB version, followed by Rs50,900 (~US$980) for the 32GB version, and prices will go all the way up to Rs57,500 for the 64GB version, which is more than US$1100 for the top end variant. This means that iphone price in India would be higher than any other place in the world.
More Expensive in India then US
In most places across the world, iPhone 4S was launched at almost similar prices to what iPhone 4 was launched at. Though in India, the prices are significantly higher. While some blame the recent depreciation in Rupee against US Dollar to be spoiler, the fact is that even the dollar converted iphone price in India is 30% higher than the US market.
Industry experts believe that with such a price differential, we are bound to see buyers heading to the grey market to purchase phones being bought from outside India and sold here cheaper than the official prices – a clear arbitrage for traders. In such a case, the buyer stands to lose the warranty as iPhone warranty is country specific, unlike some of the other Apple products which have international warranty.
iPhone 4 Price in India Still High
Similarly, the previous iteration, iPhone 4, is still priced quite steeply in India at Rs34,500 for the 16 GB version and Rs40,900 for the 32 GB version. The iPhone 3GS is available in India for Rs19,990 at present.
While India is not a great volume driver for the company, the iphone price in India is not helping the cause either. While no official figures exist regarding the sales of iPhones in India through the grey market, it is assumed to be multiple times higher than the official iPhone sales in India.
