It is time of the year again when Apple fans rejoice. This is the time where you can see extra long queues at shops of all telecom operators and even hear crazy complaints when stocks run out before half of the queue get a chance to see their phones. iPhone price plans have been released by all telecom operators and pre-orders are rushing in.
This is a typical time of new iPhone launch in Singapore, and perhaps the whole world.
Singapore is a country with very high iPhone penetration and needless to say, the three telecom providers here always tend to get busy with enormous sales and pre-orders whenever new iPhone is launched. Usually in Singapore, even though pre-orders are allowed and promised of securing an iPhone, one should always expect to encounter stocks running out fast. It is a frustrating rite of passage every iPhone fans must go through whenever new model is launched.
There are four price ranges from all three telecom operators in Singapore, from entry level to extreme range pricing. M1, SingTel and StarHub are the only telecom operators in Singapore market so prices seem to be not so different at a glance.
All iPhone price plans are for 24 months contract. Currently M1 charges SGD36 monthly fee while StarHub and Singtel charge SGD38 and SGD39.9 respectively. For entry version of iPhone 4S 16GB, M1 charges SGD505 while both StarHub and Singtel charge SGD498. Most features in the plan like talking time and SMS are almost the same.
However, for every monthly plans compounded together with iPhone handset cost, Singtel will be most expensive one at $1,455.60 at the end of 24 months, whereas the cost for M1 will be around $1,369. It is almost $100 extra in total.
The price gap remains the same for mid-range plans to high range and extreme range plans. Throughout all plans, M1 remains the cheapest in terms of price. In fact, both StarHub and M1 even give more talking time than SingTel.
The price for iPhone handset itself will become cheaper as the iPhone price plans increase, from $505 until $0. However, at $0 for iPhone handset price, the monthly price plan will be ridiculously expensive.
Among all three telecom operators, M1 is still the cheapest and most generous in talk time and data usage for all iPhone price plans. Starhub iPhone Price Plans falls somewhere in the middle while SingTel is the most expensive in overall 24 months contract plus iPhone handset.
