In Singapore, there are three carriers including SingTel, M1 and StarHub and none of them offer a locked phone. The customers can purchase the unlocked phone without any package plan. For the unlocked phone, a micro- SIM card is required which is provided by the carrier company. After inserting the micro-SIM card into the iPhone, you have to connect it with the computer and run iTunes to active the phone. For each phone, Apple has different IMEI number which is active upon connecting the iPhone with iTunes.

There are four telecom companies in Malaysia that offer iPhone to their customers and they do not require an agreement from the customers. However, they offer a bundle package under which the customers can purchase the iPhone at a very low price. On the other hand, for buying a phone without any limitation to use a fixed carrier, the customers have to pay much more than the retail price. The three carriers in Malaysia are Celcom, DiGi and Maxis.

Aircel and Airtel offer the iPhone in India. Although they do not require any agreement from the customers, the price of their phones is much more than the retail price. In fact, the iPhone price in India is now the highest in the world. The reason for this may be the availability of “jail break” iPhones in this country; however, the authorized carriers are doing well.

In Pakistan, there is no authorized carrier for iPhone but jail broke phones can be found in mobile markets which are supported by almost every carriers. The customers have to pay a much higher price than a pre-planned package. The black market is pushing the prices of iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S in Pakistan. Many have resorted to getting the iPhone 4 or 4S from other countries online. People on a budget has even opted for iPhone copycats from Chinese phone makers.

Three, Vodafone, Optus, Virgin Mobile and Telstra sell iPhone in Australia with legitimate unlocking option. Previous versions like iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 can be purchased in unlocked condition in any of the Australian Apple Online Store or in Apple Retail Store.

The price for iPhone without any plan in Hong Kong is little higher than its original retail cost. 3, 1010, one2free and SmartTone sell iPhone in this country and their phone are neither locked to the carrier nor did the carriers offer authorize unlocking. However, the iPhone 4S price in Hong Kong is currently the lowest in the world, even lower than the price in USA.

Like most of the European countries, in France, iPhone SIM are locked with the carrier. However, the French carriers Bouygues, Virgin Mobile, Orange and SFR are authorized to unlock their phones. The initial packages cost full retail price but for an unlocking option, the customers have to pay a fee.

The major Brazilian mobile phone carriers sell iPhones with locked SIM. Among Oi, TIM, VIVO and Claro, the leading cell phone companies, Oi does not offer iPhones which are bound to their network; however, the rest require a long term contract from the customer for using their service as well as offering unlocked phones upon request from the customers in exchange for a fee. The iPhone price without plan goes very high comparing to the original retail price in the Apple Store. However, it is not very difficult to understand why that happens. Apple itself set price of an unlocked iPhone three times than a locked phone.

However, the bottom line is, no matter how much the price is, iPhone is the coolest and trendiest smartphone in current market and owning this phone surely brings a dynamic look into the appearance. The phone is also an amazing device with superb performance and innovative designing concept. And finally, there are millions of applications, games, movies and songs available in Apple Store which can be easily downloaded in the phone. So paying some extra bucks seems nothing considering what we get in return.
